Rolex Submariner 126613LB (Bluesy, Blue Gold)

The Rolex Submariner 126613LB, also known as the Rolex Submariner Bluesy, is the latest in a line of blue watches that have been immensely popular with the Rolex audience.

The Blue Gold 126613LB is a contemporary successor to the iconic 11613LB, incorporating the latest Rolex technology and design enhancements.

Main Design Features of the Rolex 126613LB

The first thing to note about the 126613LB is, obviously, its colour scheme. It has a royal blue dial and a bezel to match. The Chromalight dial on this watch has a real shimmer and shine to it, giving it varying qualities depending on different light conditions. But the overall visual impact is both deep and satisfying.

There’s something conspicuously different about this particular Bluesy, however. On the dial of Rolex126613LB, the text is white rather than gold. This gives it a contrast and crispness that makes it easier to read than on previous models.

The dial sits under sapphire glass that provides scratch-resistant protection and incorporates a cyclops lens to make it easy for you to read the date at a glance. The unidirectional bezel, also in royal blue, is made of Cerachrom, the patented Rolex ceramic material that’s highly scratch-resistant. It’s also resistant to corrosion and UV rays.

A combination of Oystersteel and yellow gold encases the watch. Rolex calls this half-gold, half-steel material Rolesor. This blend of Oystersteel and 18ct gold is the perfect marriage of strength with sheer style.

The watch’s Oystersteel bracelet meets expected high Rolex standards. It’s hard-wearing, attractive and uses the Glidelock system that makes it a comfortable fit for your specific wrist size.

Naturally, in line with expected Submariner standards, this watch is waterproof to 200 metres or 1,000 feet.

Updated Watch Movement

As distinctive and desirable as these external features are, a Rolex wouldn’t be a Rolex without the right kind of precision movement driving the timekeeping mechanism.

This marks a further progression in Rolex watch design as it features the Calibre 3235 automatic movement. Compared to the 3135 movement that preceded it, the 3235 is an upgrade that fine-tunes and enhances various components, including the hairspring.

The 3235 has an improved power reserve of 70 hours, compared to 48 hours for the 3135. This means the automatic movement will last around three days.

Held in place by 31 jewels, the components in the Calibre 3235 produce a beat frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. This meets the expected standard for luxury timepieces.

A Piece of Living History

Rolex developed its first Submariner watch in 1953 and launched it at the Basel Watch Fair in 1954. Since then, the Submariner has set the standard for luxury, precision dive watches.

There’s been a long line of blue Submariner watches, beginning in the 1960s with a model bearing the reference number 1680/8. This model had a blue dial and an anodised blue aluminium bezel.

In the 1970s, blue Rolex watches were 18ct gold and new editions brought in innovations such as the scratch-resistant sapphire face and the 3135 movement. But throughout its evolution, the core design of the Rolex Submariner Date remained unchanged.

However, by the 21st century, the Rolex Submariner Date had a chunkier appearance, with bigger lugs and crown guards and a bezel made from Cerachrom.

In 2020, Rolex released its new generation of Submariner timepieces. These are bigger, at 41mm, but with a streamlining and tapering of various details. But they’re still very much identifiable as Rolex Submariners.

When you buy a Rolex, you’re buying more than the watch itself. You’re investing in the brand’s living history.

Why Choose a Rolex Submariner Bluesy?

The Rolex approach to watch design is tried, tested and incremental. The watch you wear today reflects the designs of earlier models and doesn’t deviate too much from them.

This is part of the key to unlocking the mystique of the Rolex brand, but it’s not the whole story. Rolex Submariners simply have a style factor and desirability unparalleled in the luxury watch market.

The Rolex Submariner in Blue Gold is perhaps a little more playful than other models, but it has a sense of timeless value and effortless style.
